Pirata is a Spanish restaurant and tapas bar by Chef Ling Huang. It is a fan favorite of many seeking tapas and paella in Shanghai. First opened on Xinle Lu in 2014, Pirata is now in its fourth iteration on Xingfu Lu. It has returned in full force, serving her version of Spanish tapas with a twist. The space is rustic, homey, and cute. There's a small outdoor area and a cozy eight-seater bar counter. It also shares the space with Hulu Sushi, an omakase restaurant run by Liu-San, chef Ling's husband.
Highlights include croquettas, boquerones, blistered peppers, squid wings, steak, and multiple variations of paella. Their Basque cheesecake is amazing — available as a whole cake for occasions.
